About Us
The Healthy Start Coalition of Jefferson, Madison and
Taylor Counties was established in June
1993 to serve a predominantly rural, tri-county area.
The primary focus of the Coalition is
to ensure the health and well-being of pregnant
women and their babies and to reduce infantmortality.
The Coalition has partnered with over thirty
agencies to identify and provide support for a
variety of community-based needs that ultimately
affect the lives of pregnant women and their children.
Services Provided
Healthy Start services include the support services
that produce positive birth outcomes.
These include care coordination, home visits,
smoking cessation, breastfeeding education,
childbirth education, parenting education,
and psychosocial counseling. The Coalition
contracts with the health department
in each county to provide Healthy Start Services; the
health departments are also the primary providers of
prenatal care. We are also pleased to be
sponsoring a group prenatal project and
Women's Health Programs in all three counties.
The Coalition is also involved in making all three of our
counties Whole Child Communities.
