Since its inception in 1992, the Healthy Start Coalition of Pinellas, Inc. has served thousands of families helping to improve pregnancy outcomes, improve the health of children and enhance child development. While the Coalition does not directly provide services to families, it oversees a system of care that has served over 50,000 families in the past decade. The functions of the Healthy Start Coalition are: to conduct needs assessments, develop community level strategic plans to improve pregnancy outcomes and enhance child development, to allocate funds received from the State of Florida and private sources to service providers and to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of services. Our membership consists of community based agencies, health care providers, program participants, business representatives, policy makers, government representatives, community leaders, physicians, managed care representatives, and other concerned residents interested in improving maternal and child health outcomes. Our philosophy is based on the concept that there are six levels of intervention in community development to ensure successful prevention partnerships: Strengthening individual knowledge, Promoting community education, Educating providers, Fostering coalitions and networks, Changing organizational practices, Influencing policy and legislation. Our mission The mission of the Healthy Start Coalition of Pinellas, Inc. is to coordinate a system of care that guarantees all women have access to prenatal care and that all infants have access to services that promote normal growth and development. Our vision Healthy Families Living in a Family Friendly Community.
